Meet Robbie

A lifelong resident of Gastonia, NC, Robbie Waldrop has dedicated his life to serving his community both on and off the court. A standout basketball player at South Point High School and Oak Hill Academy, Robbie earned a Division I scholarship to Winthrop University, where he competed in two NCAA March Madness tournaments. He later transferred to Lees-McRae College, where he led the nation in scoring and three-pointers made during his senior year, cementing his legacy as one of the top players in collegiate basketball.
After his basketball career, Robbie returned to Gaston County to give back to the community that shaped him. He began as a teacher and basketball coach with Gaston County Schools before transitioning to mentoring underprivileged youth. It was during this time that Robbie discovered his true calling: public service.

In 2004, Robbie began his law enforcement career with the Gaston County Police Department. Over the years, he has served in a variety of critical roles, including K-9 Handler (and now a nationally certified K-9 Master Trainer with the APCA), SWAT Team Leader, supervisor of the Special Investigations Unit (undercover narcotics), and Patrol Captain. Currently, he serves as Captain of the 911 Operations Center, where his leadership ensures the safety and security of Gaston County residents.
Robbie’s extensive experience, unwavering dedication, and deep roots in the community have prepared him to take on his next role: Sheriff of Gaston County. Committed to integrity, transparency, and service, Robbie is ready to lead with the same passion and determination that have defined his career.
Outside of work, Robbie enjoys spending time with his wife, Jess, and their two dogs, Frank and Cappie.
Robbie Waldrop’s Plan:
🗸 Responsible Leadership – I’ve managed multi-million-dollar budgets before, and I’ll ensure our tax dollars are spent wisely.
🗸 Supporting Our Deputies – Morale matters. Our deputies will know they are valued and appreciated.
🗸 Public Safety First – We will strengthen partnerships with local law enforcement to keep our communities safe.
